I was at my pops crib this weekend in the garage looking for my turntable and receiver when I turned over a box and my Motorola Timeport from the early 2000s fell out. For all the cats that think that the iphone and the blackberry are the greatest thing since sliced bread, let me introduce you to this.

Throwing this thing on the charge deck set off a bbm session between me and my boys I used to promote with. This thing was clutch. Gen1 didn’t have a phone but it had everything else, and if you think that showing a girl the latest iphone app is a set opener, you have no idea what beaming a hot ringtone did; If you didn’t have one of these things back then, you were not the man, period! … I loved this thing, I loved it so much I might try and get it activated tomorrow!!!

Nike SB took its Spanish skateboarding team consisting of Daniel Lopez De Ipina, Daniel Rubio, Daniel Lebron, Juan Algora and Adrian Del Campo exploring in Qatar and filmed the team’s journey for a documentary film due to release this coming January. Entitled, This Is Qatar, the documentary is filmed by Enrique Mayor and produced by Ivan Jimenez documents the journey of the five skateboarders

San Franciscan artist Aaron Young was recently spotted at the OHWOW gallery in Miami for the “It Ain’t Fair” exhibition which runs until tomorrow, and features over 30 contemporary artists (including Kaws, Todd James and KR).

Aaron Young was born in 1972 in San Francisco. He attended San Francisco Art Institute in 2001 and then received an MFA from Yale University in 2004. The artist lives and works in New York City. His work has been exhibited internationally in many exhibitions including P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, Long Island City (2005), the Whitney Biennial, New York (2006), the Serpentine Gallery, London (2006) and the 2nd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, (2007). He lives and works in New York City.

Aaron Young’s artworks rely on the aftereffects of dynamic, energetic, and sometimes even dangerous performances. He hires participants stereotyped as marginalized rebels, such as skateboarders and motorcycle riders, to perform various stunts in exhibition spaces on specially prepared platforms—such as the performance Arc Light for the exhibition, for what you are about to receive. Like Steven Parrino, Young uses destructive actions as generative force; the traces of his ephemeral acts are recorded as videos, drawings, sculptures, and photographs to constitute artistic artifacts.

Who sang New York City’s true anthem better? Frank Sinatra and Jay-Z both have recorded sensational hits declaring their love for the city that never sleeps. Sinatra’s 1980’s hit, “New York, New York” still lives in on people’s hearts today while Jay-Z’s catchy hip-hop tune, “Empire State of Mind,”has become the anthem for all celebrated NY sport victories. Jay-Z claims he’s “the new Sinatra” in the hit song also, but does the Hoboken-native Frankie still hold the title for the city’s anthem.

Leading off is Jay-Z’s “Answer the Call” September 11th performance, followed at 11:30 p.m. by “Frank Sinatra: The Main Event”, a concert which originally aired live Oct. 13, 1974.
